Phoenixville, PA – The 100th day of school is always such a special day at the Renaissance Academy (RA) Lower School. Throughout the school day today, February 9, 2018, students completed a variety of theme inspired activities which celebrate their 100th day of learning.

Kimberly Wheeles, 2nd grade teacher said that the 100th day celebration is one of her favorite days of the school year. "It has been a tradition for the kindergarten through 2nd graders to" grow old" overnight for their 100th day of school! Students are invited to dress up like they were 100 years old or as a historical figured who lived over 100 year ago. I love that the students, and even staff members, get into the spirit of things. Some of the activities our class participated in were 100th day Starburst hunt, 100 licks on a tootsie pop, writing about if they were 100 years old, making a 100th day book of their likes and dislikes, and playing Race to 100. We had so much fun celebrating one of our favorite numbers!"

The Lower School students also held their 2nd annual food drive in honor of the 100th day. This is a tradition which focuses on the RA core values of compassion, responsibility and hope. These public-spirited students donated, gathered, organized, and encouraged others to donate food and personal care items for a local food bank through Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS). Wendy Weaver, kindergarten teacher and one of the drive organizers, was pleased to report that the students were able to double the amount of collections from the 2017 food drive. Even our tiniest of students understand the important of being an active part of their community. Ryan Zajac, RA kindergarten student, stated that it made him feel good to help others. Another kindergartener, Alyssa Loux shared that she felt “happy because she wanted to help others so they have food to eat.”

The collected items will be delivered on Monday, February 12th to PACS, an organization which offers support, aid and hope for residents in the Phoenixville community.
