Lady Knights Blocking for a Cure!

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – On October 1st, 2013, the Renaissance Academy Charter School Lady Knights volleyball team held their first annual “Dig-Pink” pink-out volleyball match in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and Research.  The Lady Knights played against the Woodlynde Warriors and came out victorious, winning the match 3 sets to 2.

The match ended a day-long focus in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month during which the Lady Knights donned their new pink uniforms, students who donated a dollar could wear pink instead of their RA uniforms, and students could purchase pink tattoos (also for $1).

The RA Lady Knights and RA senior, Tamara Ellis raised a total of $490.50 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research by partnering with The Side-Out Foundation’s “Dig Pink” campaign (www.side-out.org). Tamara is fundraising in honor of her aunt who, two year ago, lost her 7 year battle with this disease.  The Lady Knights volleyball team feels strongly that, as young women, they need to take an active role in defeating this disease which has affected so many women around the globe.

The team will continue this annual event, making it a RA tradition each October.
