**Reopening Update**

As indicated in our phased re-opening plan, a scheduled return to school for several grade levels begins Wednesday, January 13, 2021. This communication comes as the commitment to communicate our return status by Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

After continued consideration and a thorough review of our current data, I regret to inform you that we cannot move forward with this plan. We will continue to follow the guidance provided and remain remote-learning at this time.

The administration based this decision on PDE and the PA Secretary of Health’s consistent recommendations, which stipulate schools remain in remote learning during a period of ‘Substaional Community Transmission.’ Both Chester County and Montgomery Counties have been in the substantial range for multiple weeks, ranging in the 10+% transmission rates. We are pleased to note that these rates have been steady and have ceased to climb upward in recent weeks. We remain hopeful that we will see these numbers begin to fall with everyone’s commitment to mitigation and safety.

A review of district data shows that our greatest sending three districts are showing transmission levels much higher than the counties as a whole:

  • Springford Area School District 31.00%
  • Norristown Area School District 31.4 %
  • Phoenixville Area School District 27.43%

(Data as of Jan. 4, 2021)

Most importantly, your child remains a high priority for support and intervention. While we cannot have them on campus, we have already begun to implement changes and increased effectiveness, as you have seen since the start of the second Trimester. These efforts included schedule changes, increased support hours with teachers, and the recent hire of multiple additional staff members to provide greater oversight for our students.

Additionally, with your permission, we will expect your child to return to campus at the earliest possible date as circumstances allow. The students will follow the phased return schedule as previously shared, and the dates will be updated per the above.

Going forward, beginning on January 15, 2021, we will review data as provided and make determinations each Friday, preceding the ten days for a grade level return. This notice will allow a full 10-day window during which you can plan for your child’s return. In this scenario, we will communicate notice by Friday, January 15th, to return on January 25th, we will communicate notice by Friday, January 22nd, for the return on February 1st, and so on.

**RA Reopening Plan Update**

The RA Pandemic Team met this morning to review the updated Chester County Department of Health Guidelines regarding the COVID-19 Reopening Plans.

The updated recommendation of the team is based on the new guidelines and our ability to manage the expectations while keeping our staff and students safely able to perform their roles.

The team, under the delegation granted to the CEO by the Trustees of Renaissance Academy, is making the following determinations:

  • Discontinue the plan for student supervision of grades k-6
  • Discontinue all on site sport activities or practices even of a voluntary recreational nature (may continue virtually)
  • Discontinue the use of the building for any other entity such as rental agreements
  • Discontinue onsite Student Tech Help-Desk programs (may continue virtually)
  • Delay K-6 photos scheduled for August until a date later in the school year TBA
  • Staff who are able to telecommute will continue to do so
  • HR with Admin will review essential staff needs to determine if adjustments to staffing and schedules are appropriate
  • Require reservations and screening process which continues for staff who continue to need to teach or perform job duties on site

The above will be place until October 9 , 2020 with a review of updates and current guidelines no later than October 1, 2020 with the intent of planning for next steps or a continuation of the above.

This does not change the current plan for online learning to continue until the conclusion of the First Trimester (November 13, 2020), with plans to evaluate progress and needs in early October.

We will continue to update the community as more information and updates become available.

All the best,
Dr. Guarino Buli

Reopening Plan - Version Two (approved 7/23/20)

From Dr. Guarino Buli's July 24th Communication Email:

Yesterday afternoon, our Board of Trustees approved the Second Version of RA’s Health and Safety Plan for Reopening School. This version was developed with support and planning in collaboration with our Middle Leaders, Trustees and Administrators; with input from others in our school community. The approval occurred during a public board meeting.

The greatest change in this plan is a move to a FULLY REMOTE mode of learning for the start of the school year. This plan includes an on-site supervision option for students K-6th grade.

This plan was chosen as it was determined the BEST option for both health, safety, planning and being able to provide a consistent and continuous education regardless of future developments or changes ahead of our nation and community.

Reopening Plan - Version One (approved 7/1/20)

The following plan is presented by the Renaissance Academy Pandemic Response Re-Opening Team. These plans were developed in alignment with guidelines and recommendations of PDE, PADOH, CDC, school’s counsel, and the families, students and staff of Renaissance Academy. This plan aims to outline the necessary provisions of safety, wellness, and care which we feel will allow our community to thrive and learn while feeling safe and supported.

Information, suggestions, and ideas provided in this plan were collected and reviewed from family and staff surveys, professional organizations, anecdotal conversations, and readings by stakeholders. The Team made all efforts to consider the overall health and safety of the RA community in developing the following guidelines.

This plan is presented with the express understanding that the situation in our country, state and local communities is and will remain fluid. The Team acknowledges that this plan will need to be adjusted and amended based on events and developments which may occur prior to the official opening of school in August 2020; as well as during the coming school year. The team will review and adjust as needed providing our trustees and community with updates regularly. Updates will be posted for public review on the school website.

This plan should serve as a general guideline to all stakeholders while those responsible for executing the plan will develop and maintain detailed duties and protocols.

Yours in wellness,

Dr. Guarino Buli, CEO
Renaissance Academy Charter School
