Changes to Grade book

We have moved towards just having two categories in our grade book: Practice and Reinforcement, which is classwork/homework, and Formal Assessments. Also, please be on the look out for some homework expectations that have changed for this year.

Students will be charged $5 for their agenda. Students should bring this back and forth each day.

ALL students are required to wear a lanyard name bag at all times. This card will be used for lunch and library purposes as well. Students will leave it at school at the end of the day. If these are lost, they must be replaced and there will be a cost to replace them. Every student will get a new lanyard/ID for free at the beginning of the year. After that, the IDs are $5 and lanyards $2 for replacements.

Chair packs and ELA bags

Your child will be using a chair pack and ELA bag. If you still have yours from last year, please send it in. If you need to purchase a new one, ELA bags are $5 and chair packs are $8.

There are many sites available for your child for educational purposes. We currently use the following:

Core Values

RA places a strong emphasis on establishing a safe and orderly learning environment. Through collective work of teachers, parents, and administrators, students learn that problems are solved through open discussion, acceptance of the opinions of others, and through personal responsibility. Core Values which as wisdom, justice, courage, compassion, hope, respect, responsibility, and integrity, are to be reflected in the school's Code of Conduct, modeled in all interactions among members of the school community and taught directly to students. Building strong character is fundamental to creating a positive learning environment and a hallmark in our school.

Discipline at RA is understood as positive efforts to teach and reinforce the expected behaviors and help young people learn that they are responsible for their actions. Positive interactions and positive incentives are used regularly to help reinforce the core values at RA. While it may be necessary on occasion to impose appropriate consequences should a student choose to behave in a manner that violates school policies, discipline consistently emphasizes prevention and is based on a system of behavior supports designed to minimize antisocial behaviors.

Positive Behavior System:

This year, along with your child's required lanyard and student ID, they will receive a code similar to the one they use to check out a library book. This code, when ; 'scanned' by any staff member will record a 'Positive Choice'. This system will allow teachers or staff to quickly and smoothly note a child who is using our Core Values, following the Code of Conduct, and being a good member of our community.

Fun Fridays

Fun Fridays will be held on Friday afternoons to celebrate student behavior and hard work. There will be a schedule of possible Fun Fridays, and they will be held at least once a month for 20 minutes at the end of the day. Sometimes our months are already full of celebrations, time off, SLC's, etc. which would not allow time for a Fun Friday that month. Fun Fridays may include team building games, outside fun, crafts, movies, and more! We love to have parents organize Fun Friday celebrations. If you are interested, please seek out your child's home base teacher.

Field Trips

We love taking our students on field trips and we need your help! If you would like to be a chaperone, please make sure you have your clearances. These take a few weeks to process so it's best to complete them now! We would love for you to join us!
