Exciting News:

Mrs. Summers has decided to stay home to be with her beautiful, newborn babies as a full-time mom.  Mrs. Barbara Krock, who has been teaching in this classroom during Mrs. Summers' maternity leave, will be taking over this fun classroom.

Mrs. Krock has been teaching at RA in a kindergarten classroom and has taught grades 3, 4, and 5 at RA as well.  Welcome, Mrs. Krock!

This Week in Math:  Topic 9 -  Numbers to 1,000

This week:   Students will identify what place a number it is in (ones, tens, hundreds), and write numbers in expanded, standard, and word form.  Finally, write numbers in different ways but it is still the same number.  On the way to school discuss what time it is and ask what time it will be in 10 minutes.  Or ask them to count money in your wallet.

Mystery Reader Sign-up

Story:  A Froggy Fable (fable - tall tale)

Our Week at a Glance:      Tuesday we will end with day 5 of a Froggy Fable.  Wednesday through Friday we begin with a writing piece for our student treasure.    The students will write about what they want to be when they grow up.

Spelling Words for the next 5-day cycle:  ankle, title, apple, cable, purple, able, bugle bundle, bubble, giggle, sparkle, tickle (story and spelling tests:  Tuesday, February 19:)

This week in Social Studies:  Unit 5: A World of People

Wednesday we will begin our new unit in Social Studies.  This unit encompasses investigating immigrants and what cultures they have brought to the United States.  We will discuss that culture includes customs, dress, food, art, language, music and beliefs.

Homework: Study Guide due

Science Test Date:
Students are always welcome to bring home their books to help review and prepare for assessments in both Science and Social Studies.

Black History Month Project - 

Throughout the month of February we will participate in the following activities:
   -  Students will tour other classroom doors and bulletin boards
   - We will discuss other individuals that were influential  

Wednesdays until May - Field Placement - Ms. Martinez
We are lucky enough to have a field placement from Cabrini College.  Ms. Martinez will be in our classroom every Wednesday until May.  She is observing, interacting with our class, and even teaching some lessons!  Next fall, she will be student teaching so we are helping Ms. Martinez prepare for her final chapter in her college career.  Some students have introduced themselves and have welcomed her into our classroom!
