Spanish Grades K-6 General Information

I will be communicating with students and families using the Google Classroom.  Your student will be joining the site at school and then I will send you an invitation to your email.  PLEASE ACCEPT THIS INVITATION as it will be the only way you will receive updates about what your child will be working on in Spanish class and assessment dates.  If there is another email that you would like me to add for your household please email me at:  heidi.block@rak12.org and let me know.

Each time I post an announcement you will receive a messaage right to your inbox. Your child will be able to find current and past vocabulary lists in the Google Classroom.  Please note that parents/guardians will not have access to see the Classroom unless you ask them to log you in using their own school account log in information.

Second through fifth graders will have the option to earn extra credit points for going on the Quizlet website for my students or by making flashcards or studying with a family member.

You will also have the option to join a Duolinguo class which is a fun way for your child to enrich their Spanish vocabulary and skills.  Joining Duolinguo is not required.

In the Lower School, students learn Spanish according to ACTFL’s (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) 5 C’s: Communication; Cultures; Connections; Communities and Comparisons. Vocabulary is presented in thematic units and its acquisition is the curriculum’s main focus. Grammatical structures are introduced as needed based on the communicative nature of the tasks needed for the unit of study.

Homework is not typically assigned, unless the student has been unable to complete their classwork or project in an appropriate amount of time during class. At times, homework may be assigned for extra credit purposes. It is recommended that students set aside 2 to 3 nights per week to practice current vocabulary or to review class notes.
