K-4th Grade Resources for Parents Page

The Role of the elementary school counselor includes:

  • Small Groups designed to foster social skills/coping skills
  • Provide developmental guidance lessons for each grade level
  • Individual Student Support
  • Consult with teachers, students and parents regarding student needs.

Counseling groups offered at RA:

  • Friendship (making & maintaining friendships)
  • Wonderful me (self-esteem)
  • Banana Splits (for students coping with divorce/changes in their family)
  • Positive Players (group to help students learn healthy ways to cope with conflict)
Groups are offered based on student needs.  Teachers and parents can recommend students for a group. Generally, groups run for 8 sessions (once a week) and are held during specials or lunch time.  Feel free to contact Melissa Laurento at melissa.laurento@rak12.org or 610-983-4080, ext. 173 with any questions or concerns.

Counseling lessons by grade level:

  • First Grade: Friendship, Feelings-Anger, Conflict Resolution, Respecting Differences
  • Second Grade: Conflict Resolution, Dealing with anger in a healthy way, bucket filling, Respecting Differences
  • Third Grade: Conflict Resolution, Dangers of Gossip, Respecting Differences
  • Fourth Grade: Friendship, Conflict Resolution, Tolerance
