Contemporary Soliloquy Animoto Project

Working with a partner, you will select one of the soliloquies from Macbeth and link the themes in your soliloquy to contemporary issues and events in an audio-visual presentation using Animoto:

Example 2

We will complete the project in class using the following steps. Animoto will make the presentation based on the length of the music file you chose, and the amount of pictures your provide, so you will need to ensure you meet the requirements in order to make a full length presentation.

REGISTERING FOR ANIMOTO: FOLLOW THESE STEPS PRECISELY!

  1. Go to the ANIMOTO site.
  2. Click "Sign-up". Enter your information (it is private). You will need at least ONE VALID email address that you have access to in the classroom. Animoto sends your project and password recovery information to the address your provide here.
  3. Before you submit the form, click on the "Do you have a promo/referral code?" and enter the Classroom Code provided below.
  4. Submit the form and you are ready to begin!
  5. EVERY GROUP MEMBER MUST HAVE THE USERNAME AND PASSWORD FOR YOUR GROUP PROJECT. IF YOU ARE ABSENT AND YOUR GROUP MEMBERS CANNOT ACCESS THE PROJECT, IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED A VALID EXCUSE FOR NOT COMPLETING WORK OR PRESENTING.

Assignment Details:

Choose a soliloquy from the following document:
SOLILOQUYS IN MACBETH.docx

Instructions and Rationales:
Soliloquy Assignment Details.docx

AFTER YOUR RATIONALE IS APPROVED:

  1. Open Google Drive and create a new folder
  2. Share the folder with your partner/group (VERY IMPORTANT!)

Next you will need to search the internet to find photos for your animoto. You are required to have at least 30 photos. Save these to your group's folder.

DO NOT PASTE THEM INTO A DOC! If you do, you will not be able to upload them and you will have to start collecting them all over again.

Step-by-step Animoto instructions:

Log in to animoto.

Click on "create video" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Choose a theme that does not have the "Pro" circle next to the screenshot. You have to pay for those. Your theme should be relevant to your story; you will need to explain why you chose it. Click "create video" again.

You are now in the Photos and Videos screen. Click "Upload from your computer".

Find your group's folder. Click on the top photo, hold down the shift button, scroll to the last photo, and click on it. All of your photos should be highlighted at once.

Click "upload".

Your photos will upload to animoto.

When they are finished, you will see them in little square boxes. You can click and drag these boxes to rearrange the order of the photos to match the order of your story. Your storyboard, or visual story, should contain all of the plot elements of your creation myth with the exception of the resolution (no spoliers!). It should make sense to the viewer as a progressing storyline, and should not appear to be random images strung together.

Once you have your photos in the order that you want them, click on "add text" (the T on the bottom of your storyboard screen). Drag the box with the T to the place you want to add text, between photos.Type in your pre-approved text from your rationale. Be sure to use the text from the worksheet that was approved. There is an area for main text (will appear larger) and sub text (will appear smaller). There is a character limit, so you will have to place multiple text boxes or use both lines in some cases to include all of your text. Be concise!

Once you have your text where you want it, click "done".

You will see the next section "Get Your Music".

Two important notes about music:

  • Make sure it is classroom appropriate (violent or graphic language, cursing, etc. = automatic fail).
  • You can upload it from home or your iPod (if you know how), or you can bring in a CD with it and then upload it. Or, you can chose from animoto's selection. If you choose to use your own music, you are on your own! I cannot help you out with this part, so use the animoto selection if you are not tech savvy.

Either way, you will have to give a rationale for your music choice during your presentation. For example, you can link it thematically using lyrics or explain how the tone of the music reflects the themes in your soliloquy and contemporary issues, etc. "I like this song" or "it sounded cool" is not an acceptable rationale.

Upload or choose your music. Click next.

Type in the artist and song name if necessary. Click next.

On the next page, select full-length video, then select your speed. I suggest starting with a medium/normal speed, since you can remix and change these options if you are not happy with the results. Remember, we need to be able to read your text, so don't make it too fast.

Click continue.

How to make sure you get credit:

Your title should reflect the soliloquy and/or the contemporary issue you are presenting on.

The description needs to include every group member's first name and last initial.

Click "Create Video".

It may take a while for the video to finish rendering. They will send you an email when it is ready to be viewed. You can close your browser and it will render on its own; you do not need to stay logged in while it is rendering. You can view it and decide if you want to edit it, change anything, remix, etc. When you remix, it saves the original and the remixed version, so you can create multiple versions to compare and choose from.

Most important of all, make sure you click (bottom right, under your video) the Toolbox.

Then click "Share" and enter in my email address: ashley.wakefield@rak12.org and send it to me.

If you do not do this, I will not receive it and you will not have it for presentations. I must receive it before class on the due date in order for your group to receive credit.

After you finish your animoto, complete the final section of the rationale worksheet.
