In the Lower School, students learn Spanish according to ACTFL’s (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) 5 C’s: Communication; Cultures; Connections; Communities and Comparisons. Vocabulary is presented in thematic units and its acquisition is the curriculum’s main focus. Grammatical structures are introduced as needed based on the communicative nature of the tasks needed for the unit of study.

Homework is not typically assigned, unless the student has been unable to complete their classwork or project in an appropriate amount of time during class. At times, homework may be assigned for extra credit purposes. It is recommended that students set aside 2 to 3 nights per week to practice current vocabulary or to review class notes.
