The official date of Take Your Child To Work Day is Thursday, April 27th, although some businesses may choose a date before or after that to welcome their employee's children to their establishments.
The rule for student absences for this purpose is very specific.  Feel free to use my exact words to inform parents what they can expect should they decide to have their child participate with them in this national event.
An absence for Take Your Child to Work Day is always excused with a parent  note or call to the absence line prior to or on the day of the event.  An excused absence means that the day will count toward the total number of absences the student may have per year.
The day may be eligible for an Educational/Exempt absence - which means it will NOT count toward the total number of absences the student may have per year.  The parent must provide me with a paper or electronic copy of their employer's official invitation and agenda for the event. This should contain the company's contact information, including the name and telephone number of the event organizer.  It should include a specific agenda of activities that shows what the child will be doing and learning while visiting the company.
