Star Student of the Week

Congratulations to this week's star student Angelina! Angelina is very compassionate and an excellent role model. Angelina is a hard worker, great active listener, and treats others with kindness. Way to go Angelina!

Science/Social Studies:

What are we learning about this week?
We will complete a 10 cup challenge to see which group can stack 10 cups the highest, we will review for our unit 1 science test, and take our science test on Wednesday. Thursday we will kick off Chapter 2 learning about the Design Process. There is no science on Friday due to the half day.  

Last Friday, September 21st, a Science Review was sent home. This review is due on Wednesday, September 26th and will be counted as a homework grade. Only the last page needs to be sent back.

A Unit 2 Family letter will be sent home on Thursday introducing our new topic.

What are we learning about this week?
This week we will do: Monday-2.1-Count on to add, Tuesday-2.2-Doubles, Wednesday-2.3-Near Doubles, Thursday-2.4-Facts with 5 on a 10 frame, Friday-Centers/Math Seeds.

What are we learning about this week?:

We will read Book #18, Fang. On Friday, we will be completing our Spelling Quiz and on Thursday we will be doing a Fast Track Phonics Assessment on the sounds: a_e, I_e, ee, o_e, ed, and ing.

Things to practice at home: When your child is reading to you, stop them at the end of each page/paragraph and ask them to retell what it was about. Make sure they answer in complete sentences with details.

  •   SLC sign up was sent out last week.  Please bring me to SLC sign up.
  •  Our Spanish Festival is coming up! If you would like to be a visitor for our celebration, Please bring me to the Spanish Festival Sign Up.
  • Please make sure your child writes their name on their math homework. If a student turns in homework without a name, unfortunately I have to mark it as a zero.
  • It looks like the Skyward payment app may be up and running. Please see the weekly email from the school on directions for this.
  • This Friday, October 19th is that last day to put in orders for Scholastic Book Orders for this month. Our class code is GLT7G.  I have placed the September order and it will be in within the next two weeks.

Classroom General Information

  • Book It Paper:  This is optional! I will send them home each month. If your child completes it, please send it back in and they will be given a coupon for a free personal pizza at pizza hut.
  • There are no formal Mystery Reader sign ups in first grade. If you are interested in being a mystery reader, I would love to have you! Please reach out! I'm happy to make it work!
