Grading Calculation Update (April 29, 2020)


Renaissance Academy - Plans for Learning (updated April 3, 2020)

The Following Framework will be in place upon the return from Spring Break

Kindergarten

Emails sent to parents on Fridays for the upcoming week’s assignments.

  • One Kinder Roots Book per week
  • One Language Arts Assignment & four journal entries per week
  • One Math assignment per day
  • One OPTIONAL Science and Social Studies activity per week
  • All grades will be placed in the classwork category.
  • Fine Arts - rotation of graded vs. optional assignments each week. The fine arts week at a glance will note which assignments are graded and which ones are optional. Graded assignments will be given classwork grades. Optional assignments will continue to receive PBIS points. No student will ever have more than 2-3 graded fine arts assignments per week.
  • Google Meets will be used for reading and check-ins with the students (not mandatory but highly suggested) at teacher discretion.

1st & 2nd Grade

Emails sent to parents Sunday Evenings for the upcoming week.

  • One Math assignment on Pearson, daily
  • Reading is assigned weekly following suggested scope for each day for pacing.
  • Social Studies or Science one reading assignment with questions, weekly
  • Online formal assessments using Pearson assessments for Math and ELA.
  • First grade online assessments in the Social Studies curriculum.
  • Second-grade performance-based assessments.
  • Fine Arts - rotation of graded vs. optional assignments each week. The fine arts week at a glance will note which assignments are graded and which ones are optional. Graded assignments will be given classwork grades. Optional assignments will continue to receive PBIS points. No student will ever have more than 2-3 graded fine arts assignments per week.
  • Google hangouts will be used in a variety of ways to engage students with one another. This platform is not used for instruction.

3rd & 4th Grade

Lessons posted in Google Classroom at the beginning of each week.

  • One assignment for Math, ELA, and Science/Social Studies, daily.
  • Each assignment should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
  • Some assignments may span 2-3 days.
  • Formal assessments will continue in the same format that was followed during the rest of the school year.
  • Fine Arts - One graded assignment weekly

5th & 6th Grade

Weekly work agendas will come via email to parents/guardians on Mondays.

  • ELA and Math, daily assignments.
  • Science and Social Science two to three, assignments per week depending on the rotation.
  • ELA and Math will start weekly formal assessments starting the week of April 20th.
  • Social Studies formal assessments will be a short quiz that will be given weekly.
  • Science will have one more formal assessment after spring break. Once completed, all other work will be under the classwork category.
  • Fine Arts - One graded assignment weekly

7th & 8th Grade

Weekly work expectations for the week will come via email to parents/guardians on Mondays from Principal, Michelle Boyd.

Google Classroom posting of assignments for students.

No midweek surprises or additions of required work.

  • Max of 2 assignments per subject area, per week, at no more than 2 hours of work.
  • Fine Art Classes - Max or 1 assignment per week, at no more than 11/2 hours of work.

9th-12th Grade

Assignments posted in Google Classroom on Mondays.

No midweek surprises or additions of required work.

  • AP Classes - Max of 3 assignments per week, at no more than 3 hours of work. *Optional additional activities and assignments per student choice.
  • Honors Classes - Max of 3 assignments per week, at no more than 3 hours of work.
  • On-Level Classes - Max of 2 assignments per week, at no more than 2 hours of work.
  • Fine Art Classes - Max or 1 assignment per week, at no more than 11/2 hours of work.
