RA’s Alex DiMino Competes in Robotics Competitions

Out of the Box Robotics TeamPhoenixville, PA --- Renaissance Academy junior, Alex DiMino is involved on a FIRST FTC(FIRST Tech Challenge) robotics team, where they not only build a unique robot to fulfill the game for each season but also get themselves heavily involved in the community. Her team Out Of the Box Robotics from Thorndale, Pa is heavily involved in spreading not only the word of FIRST but the word of STEM in the community.

Alex and her team competed at the FTC State championship in Pennsylvania at Millersville University on February 28th, where they placed first, winning the INSPIRE Award. This particular award is awarded to the well rounded team that embodies the true idea of FIRST. This team volunteers and gets FIRST known in their community and school, is an inspiration to other teams, and finally have used the STEM basis to create a unique and effective robot that fully accomplished the game for the season. Out Of the Box team 7244, advanced to the Super Regional competition which was held at Scranton University. There were 72 different FIRST FTC team present, competing for one of the 22 spots available to attend the WORLD competition in St. Louis, Missouri at the end of April.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), is a worldwide organization ranging from 1st graders through high school. FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, an inventor and entrepreneur. Here students work with mentors to learn the fundamentals of building, designing, and programming robots; as connecting with their community. FIRST is meant to teach the youth in the community the important of STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics) in the world today and the variety of doors STEM programs can open up.
