What began as a casual invitation to play music together during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a promising musical journey for Phoenixville-based, Renaissance Academy student-led band Blind Eddie.
The band's story started in the summer of 2021 when drummer and vocalist Hayden Anderson invited fellow musicians to play a few songs together. What began with a handful of Beatles covers quickly evolved into something much bigger. Today, Blind Eddie has expanded beyond its roots as a local cover band, bringing its original music to audiences on major streaming platforms.
Blind Eddie is made up of Hayden Anderson on drums and vocals, Henry Martin on guitar, Sean Morris on guitar and vocals, Hayden Trudel on bass, and Ved Pakala on keyboards.
The band's unique name comes from band member Hayden Anderson's dog, Eddie, who is blind. While the name may have humble origins, the group's ambitions continue to grow.
Inspired by artists such as the Beatles, Steely Dan, Ben Folds Five, Muse, John Mayer, and Fooling April, Blind Eddie has developed a sound that blends elements of pop rock and alternative rock. Drawing from years of musical experience and a love of music fostered by their parents, each member brought their own influences to the group, creating a style that is uniquely their own.
Their transition from performing covers to creating original music marked an exciting milestone for the band. One of their most memorable moments came when they debuted their original song, "I'll Say You," during a live performance.
"We play the base of a song that one of us comes up with and slowly keep adding things until we feel that it is complete," the band shared when describing their creative process.
Today, Blind Eddie has released two original songs, "I'll Say You" and "Never Right," on major streaming and music platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. For the band members, hearing their music available for audiences around the world has been a rewarding experience.
"It is so cool because something we all worked really hard on is now being displayed," they said.
Balancing school, personal commitments, and music requires dedication. With music playing a significant role in each member's life, the band maintains a disciplined schedule, practicing primarily on weekends during the school year and adjusting when academic responsibilities become a priority.
As Blind Eddie continues to gain momentum, the group's focus remains on creating new music and performing more live shows in the years ahead. What started as a simple pandemic-era jam session has evolved into a growing musical project fueled by passion, creativity, and a shared love of performing.
